8:08AM - Jeebus is the Reason for the Season!

Announcing the 2009 ThriftHorror Christmas Craptacular Contest! With a prize! And dancing clowns! No, no dancing clowns. We have standards.

This year's contest--it's going to be kind of like finding Waldo--is to find amazing, terrifying, unintentionally funny or "found art" Jesuses. Jesii. I don't think his name usually takes plurals. Nativities are good, too.

Here's the catch, and the challenge--it must be a CHRISTMAS Jesus! Yes, he IS the poster boy for Easter, but since this is a Christmas contest, it's gotta be something that was created to be brought out for Christmas. Christmas Jesus is a sometimes treat.

Aaaand--PLEASE be somewhat kind when you talk about your finds. There's a lot of impish humor wandering around this community (no really?) but steer away from the edged humor on this one, since, well, center of a major world religion and all.

I'll be posting a follow-up to this one on Wednesday, December 23, for final judgement. You MUST post your finds as a comment with picture to that post, or it'll fall between the cracks.

Peace out,
Spotty Logic

4:10PM - Speed Horror

A couple of weeks ago, I decided on a whim to check out the Salvation Army down the street... at 4:55, when they close at 5. Not my smartest impulse, but it did yield a few shots.

Welcome! Now GTFO... )

3:12PM - First post!

Longtime lurker, sometimes commenter, first post.  I went down to the thrift store for the first time since joining this community a few months back and I have two items for you.  Our local thrift store is a Red, White and Blue, though I call it "Kaufmann's on the Boulevard"

Two exhibits! )

3:04PM - more fun in PEI

i found this while out shopping for a halloween costume.  not exactly sure it's a horror, but i thought it was hilarious enough to warrent a posting here.

wile coyote...in mug form.  the nose was as long as my hand.

10:23AM - Two for one Thrift Store special!

I visited a local privately-run thrift store I'd never been into several days ago and then just yesterday I visited the Goodwill from my last post again, Neither produced a large number of images (the first one because my camera phone was nearly out of batteries and the second because I just honestly didn't see that much) so I figured I'd lump 'em together in one post!

THE VILLAGE THRIFT SHOP (No seriously this is what it was called)

11:33PM

I've lurked here for a rather long time, but now I have things to contribute! I apologize in advance for the crappy camera quality.

Over Columbus Day weekend, my fiance & I went to visit my uncle. He said he knew this phenomenal thrift store, where we'd find amazing things.

Yes, well, We weren't disappointed )

6:33PM - WHY, WHY ALWAYS WITH THE VIOLINS

ogod )

The worst thing is this wasn't even in a thrift store, but a.. well, it basically is a thrift store, but it's one of those "kooky vintage stuff" shops where it's horrible old thrift store cack but for about 400 times the price.

I didn't look to see how much it was being sold for. I'm not sure I want to know.

9:39AM - Does anyone really know me???

This is to any and everyone that I might have hurt or made one too many jokes with. I'm sorry. I go througgh life oblivious to the fact that life isn't fun and the way to get through it isn't to joke your way out of a bad mood.  I'm not a malicious person. It hurts me to know that I've hurt anybody. I try to get along with everyone. My only predjudice is ignorance. I don't really care if you are different from me. That's what makes us different people. I am sarcastic. I live for a good joke or good music. I have never intentionally hurt anyone or anything. My Irish guilt would never allow it.
I'm sorry if you have a problem with me. Why didn't you come to me and say so??????? It would have caused far less problems.
I don't know what else I can say. Just that this whole thing is not worth the lack of sleep and stomach problems it is causing. I might lose my job for something that isn't even a thing. I don't like crying, or tossing and turning instead of sleeping. Just trying to figure out why what was sort of a friendship became THIS????  How and when? I have no idea and really am clueless.

End of my jokes, end of fun at work,  possibly the end of a carreer because of petty ignorance. Live & learn I guess.

Have a great life. I'll do the same.

8:00AM - They're everywhere!

ETA: this guy is for sale on the website if anyone wants to put in a bid!

I'm used to seeing some weird-ass shit in your average Goodwill, but I never expected to see something so horrific in my friendly neighborhood Housing Works.

Photobucket

It's a bank. You put a coin in its hand and it eats it.

Photobucket

Note how the eyes roll back into the head when you do so.

(Images obviously stolen from the site, since I wouldn't have thought to bring a camera in there. Usually their stuff is nice but unremarkable.)

1:10AM

This entry is dedicated to my new favorite commercial

From now on, whenever I drink whiskey, its going to be called "Fighting the Giant Octopus"

so good.

1:43AM - Staten Island NY

Firstly, is Photobucket being irritating for anyone else? Not just tonight but the past few days? I think it may be the mass exodus from Geocities...

Anyway, HI! You haven't seen me since the awesome cherub lamp of +20 fake gems. I has a new camera, so I can more easily horror hunt for you all!

Follow the bad giant fruit from Home Goods!

Photobucket

Gotta post before bed! )

To close it off, I leave you with a picture of the lamp from last time. I was told a lady came in and bought it, and said she used to have one and if a second comes through the store to please inform her. I'm glad it has a good home. It physically hurt me to not buy it.

Photobucket

And as always, if you know more about an item, do tell me. I love knowing what they are!

6:07PM - Goodwill -- Orlando, FL

Headed out with a couple of friends to the nearest Goodwill to look for Halloween costume material. I found a pair of trousers that would fit two of me in them and am altering them now--hey, man, three bucks. But there were some more interesting horrors...

This way! )

4:34PM - I gotta bring a camera ...

So I went to the Astoria thrifts today, looking for work clothes. Where else can you get Ann Taylor stuff for next to nothing?  I also peeked at the books and CDs for myself and ebayables. And there I saw it.

The Japanese Disco record.

It was American couples on the cover, on the color square disco floor and smoke,  and a bunch of songs I never heard of, but all the text was in Japanese. Bizarre, to say the least. The first thing I thought of was this community ... and how you would all miss out on it, for the lack of a camera.  Sorry.  :-(
