7:55PM - Northwest Indiana Goodwill

I'll get the clown out of the way now.
Toby is the name of the child whose soul was devoured by Bozo.

5:25PM

Monday 8/25/08 marked a year since we moved into this house. and you know, it's really nice to have something like this, to call your own, to call home. and in less then a month, it will be our one year anniversary. never really dreamed i would have such. you know have an actual house, and a wife. it really speaks volumes how far i have come in my life. grant it at 34, most people have these things, and are well beyond this point. but, i have been slow on the maturity level, and prioritized other things in my life ahead of all this. i have learned that i can have it all really. with the exception of endless money. havent figured out how to make that happen yet. need to come up with a get rich quick scheme. one of these days, it will happen. maybe i could win the lottery. of course, i have to play to win. so i would need to purchase lottery tickets.

i download two new Metallica Songs, "The Day That Never Comes" and "My Apocalypse". The former i downloaded on Tuesday, the latter i downloaded last night. all off itunes, gotta throw that out there. anyway, at first I didnt really care for "Day", but it has grown on me. "Apocalypse" i havent had enough time with to make a judgement. but the other night, i made a Metallica mixtape, just so i could have "Day" on a cd and listen to it while driving. Basically my critera was, I didnt want the typical Metallica songs, and I didnt want them to be too long, as I wanted to be able to fit as much on a cd as possible. So i tried to pull songs that were four minutes or so, and basically got one song off every Metallica song. and its been fun.

otherwise musically, i have been listening to MAchine Head, Manson, and a variety of others.

Current music: Marilyn Manson- Love Song

2:54PM - Round 2!

as promise... the rest of my productive day at 63rd St.

5:26AM - No way, no how, no McCain.

Michelle Obama was dazzling on Monday night.
Hillary Clinton finally gave the speech I've been waiting for on Tuesday.
Bill Clinton will, hopefully, step up to the plate on Wednesday.
I'm sure Biden won't disappoint, either (even though he's probably not writing his own speech).
And Barack Obama will wrap it all up on Thursday (of course, while I am at Annex for Brian Bonz).
But God knows I will be home YouTubing it the second I hit my computer.

I know they have sports bars...do they have political bars where cute, liberal boys watch MSNBC over lattes?
Starbucks just needs to start showing footage of Keith Olbermann and I'll be set.

November 2008.  I want to say bring it on; but I have never been so excitedly terrified, optimistic, and skeptical in my life.
As one woman interviewed at the convention said...if we don't do it this year, we may not be able to do it at all.
This will be our year, took a long time to come.

This is a magical yet scary time to be an American.  And regardless of these outcome, I cannot wait to read about this year in history books.

I am so thankful that I was raised in a politcally active household.
I am so thankful that giving a shit has been instilled in me since birth.
I've spent every November of my life at polling stations, victory parties, and VFW halls.

I have friends who say that politics has never really been a topic of discussion within their families; and that idea is absolutely unfamiliar to me.  It's pretty much all my family discusses and one of very few things we all agree on.  Every year, there's stickers and banners and lawn signs and phone calls and petitions and literature.  When I was seven years old, my parents took me to see Bill Clinton speak at the Meadowlands.  In 2005, I had the opportunity to see Barack Obama speak at my very own school (back at Middlesex).  It's impossible for me to conceive the idea of a family, or a person, that doesn't care about this stuff.  It has surrounded me my whole life.

I'm not happy with the system, and if you think it's working, I probably thing you're stupid.  Really.  And it's probably hypocritical of me to sit back and let the world continue as it does without a fight.  I happen to hang out with a group of intelligent, aware, and like-minded individuals that understand my desires for a socialist revolution and my distaste for the two-party system.  Sadly, we're few and far between.  We have to let reality win and accept that Nader and Kucinich are just too fucking honest, intelligent, and "radical" to be accepted by the general public.  When times are this desperate, I am willing to accept a second-best option...and I think Obama is a pretty fucking good option that doesn't require overthrowing the entire system.

You wanna talk about being patriotic?  Open your fucking eyes.  I don't care what pin you wear, or what magnets you have on your car, or how many American flags are prominently displayed on your porch.  Love your country enough to know when to criticize it, when to question its leaders, and when to say enough is enough.  Paying attention is the first step, and often the one that is most taken for granted.

In other news, I was gonna go to sleep at 3 AM and then Clerks 2 came on.  Movie makes me put my life on hold EVERY SINGLE TIME.

8:08PM

This isn't the best picture because I took it through the window at sunset, but I knew I had to post it here:

This is in the window of the Goodwill in Easton, Maryland, but it was closed for the evening. She looks she wants to escape. AS for the rest of us, we can only ponder the horrors that may lay within...

My last trip to the 63rd Street Flea Market in Des Moines (a couple weeks ago) was very productive!  So much so that I am splitting my pictures into 2 posts... so i can prolong the horror!  Lucky you!

6:29PM - The Family Jewels

There are just too many places to go with this one.

Found at a Goodwill Superstore in Humble, TX.

A circumcision gone wrong, maybe? Way wrong. Or perhaps a battle lost to the evil wizard of castration? Who knows.
And crystal balls at that. Wow. The true family jewels...gone.
You'd be crying, too.

1:59PM - "You know who was a great guy?" "...Hitler?"

I woke up after 3.5 hours and I feel like crap.  Today is the first day I have woken up in an AM hour since we went away; and that may even be a stretch.  However, in that time frame, I did manage to fix my school schedule because a class I wanted opened up!

My final semester of college... )

The class I was hoping for was Media, Democracy, and the Public.  It looks like it's going to examine interactions among those three things.  According to the description, it's part-journalistic, part-political theory.  Right up my alley, for sure.  If the seminar for Literary Journalism opens up I might switch to that, but probably not.  That sounds like an awesome class with a prestigious professor; but it's also on a different campus and ends after 5:00.

I have four three-hour classes, too, but at least I have a day off and two days with only one class each.  And my latest class ends at 4:10.  At this point, I am definitely content and all bases have been covered as far as shows are concerned.  Yeah, I have priorities.

Last night, Bex and I had a notably awesome Wawa and Starbucks hang (sorry Rob!).  We decided, on a whim, to hit up the 24-hour Starbucks around 1 AM.  We ended up talking about the usual for a while.  Then, these two dudes came in and struck up a conversation.  At first, I thought they were kind of creepy...but I warmed up to them once I found out they were Democrats and not 30.  We talked for a while...about politics, and music, and some other shit.  It actually turned out to be quite pleasant.  One of the dudes ended up adding Bex and me on Facebook.  Which was surprising, because he was wasted.  Guess he sobered up once we started exchanging names, haha.

It's really bothersome how your impression of a person can be ruined because they remind you of someone who broke your heart.

I've been squinting a lot and getting headaches.  I think I need glasses.
